Dog Walking Wines

Cedric's Dog Walking Wines

Anyone who has met Cedric knows that he loves to take his dog Skye for a stroll… but not without a glass of wine!
Check out his picks below for the perfect accompaniment.

Last week Martin’s hosted our 3rd annual Rosé Soirée tasting at all four stores. I tried every rosé and, out of all 24, I picked my two favorites. As I walk Skye this week, I’ll be drinking Chateau de la Negly La Natice Rose from the Languedoc region and By.Ott Rose from Cotes de Provence. Both wines are made from Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah. They are elegant with a hint of raspberry and easy to drink. It’s the perfect time of year to drink rosé and walk your dog! See you in the neighborhood.

It’s a new year and Skye is back to her old habits – walking the neighborhood while I have a glass of wine! This week there were two wines that perked my interest. The Grand Ardeche Chardonnay Louis Latour 2014 – what a surprise! This wine has a slight hint of oak combined with a mineral quality that makes for a delightful wine to sip or have with dinner. The second wine was Decero Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 from Argentina. This Cab isn’t too heavy, with soft tannins, and it’s under $20. Enjoy!”

“Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! Skye and I went for a walk after lunch. I had a Spanish wine, Triga Volver from southern Spain. This was one of the finest Spanish wine I have tasted. It is made from Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Easy drinking.”

“Skye is donning her sweater, which means it’s red wine season. Last night I tasted the new Le Petit Elevage Pinot Noir Russian River 2014.  It’s not too heavy and has a great Pinot taste. I will definitely serve this one on Thanksgiving.”

Skye and I walked the neighborhood looking at the Halloween decorations. I had a glass of Montagny La Grande Roche 2015, a white wine from the south of Burgundy. Burgundy prices are on the rise, and it was nice to find an affordable bottle that was also delicious. This is definitely a great dog walking wine.”

Skye is stuck on Italian whites and roses. Last night I had a Pecorino – the grape, not the cheese – which is a delicate white wine from the Abruzzo region. The wine is very light, a little taste of honey, but very dry. An excellent wine before dinner.”

“It was a long week in Minneapolis. The weather was cool, but I was too early to see the tree leaves change color. Skye claims that there aren’t any dog walking wines in Minnesota, so I flew home. It was close to 100 degrees when I arrived back in New Orleans, so I picked a rose from Garofoli and took Skye for a walk. Garofoli is a family owned Italian winery in the Marche region on the western coast. The grape is Montepulciano, which produces a very light, elegant rose wine. Delicious when ice cold.”

SEPT 13, 2016
“Skye appeared a little under the weather so we had a short walk last night. I chose Herdade do Esporao Verdelho, a white wine from Portugal. Wine from Portugal is becoming popular in this country because of quality and price but they have been producing very good white and red wine for the last 20 years. The Verdelho grape produces a wine that is crisp and, light, with good acidity. A great summer wine.”

SEPT 12, 2016
Last night Skye and I had company on our walk around the neighborhood. I was drinking a glass of Avancia Godello. Godello is a white wine grape found in northwestern Spain. The wine reminds me of a cross between Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc. Good acidity with honey overtones. Dry, but full bodied.”

“I was walking Skye to my friend’s house with a bottle and a glass of Chardonnay Bourgogne Louis Latour 2014. My friend gave me an old picture of a Burgundy harvest dating back to 1950 so what’s a bettwe gift than a bottle of white Burgundy?! This wine is light and elegant, with just a little oak on the finish. A great bottle of white wine for any price.”

SEPT 2, 2016
It was late when Pam called. No white wine in the house, so I grabbed a bottle of Sincerely Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa on my way home. What a surprise! It was light, crisp, and refreshing. One of my new favorite dog walking wines!

AUG 22, 2016
“This weekend I had a glass of Sangiovese Toscana Caparzo 2014. Sangiovese is a grape used to make Chianti. This wine is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Alicante. Sangiovese tends to be slightly acidic. The other grape varieties make the wine soft and rich. For what it is worth, the price and quality are excellent.”

AUG 15, 2016
I had a bottle of Les Hautes de Smith 2015 Rose over the weekend. It’s not easy to find rose wine from Bordeaux, but this one was exceptional! Very light with a slight peach flavor.

AUG 12, 2016
I finally found the ultimate California red wine that I can drink every night. Block Cabernet 2013 has great texture, fine tannins and is easy to drink. I’ve got six bottles in my wine rack!”
