LOCATION: Campo de Borja, Spain
KNOWN FOR: Bodegas Borsao is one of the most prominent growers of Garnacha (Grenache) in the world. They are also recognized as producing wines that vastly over deliver for their price.
HISTORY: When you can claim that the oldest vineyards in your region date to 1145, then you know that “tradition” is not simply a buzzword thrown around for publicity. The Campo de Borja is the ancestral home to Garnacha, and Bodegas Borsao is absolutely one of the masters at showcasing that regal grape. Beginning about 60 years ago as a Co-Op in the Campo de Borja, Borsao now enjoys its place as the banner wine producer in the region. Featuring wines at mostly inexpensive price points, Borsao is renowned in the wine world for providing amazing depth and quality for incredible prices. Even wine critic Robert Parker remarked, “If you have not yet discovered the great values of Bodegas Borsao, it’s about time you do”. We can’t argue with Mr. Parker there. Borsao is one of those rare wineries where we can pick up any bottle, at any time, and feel exceedingly confident in its quality.
Bodegas Borsao Berola 2012
91 Points, Wine Advocate
Berola is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Slightly longer oak aging gives this wine a depth that is far beyond its price point.
The addition of Syrah provides characteristic darker fruit and earthy notes. A fantastic wine for those who enjoy big Cabernets.
